Moderate Exercise Useless For The Obese

Just saw a nice article posted on Time.com. Obvioulsy over weight people have to work harder to lose and keep weight down but now a study is out on this topic. Obesity experts agree that daily exercise is essential for good health, but whether it can successfully lead to long-term weight loss is a question of much debate.
What has become increasingly clear, however, is that the conventionally accepted advice — 30 minutes of moderate-intensity activity most days of the week — is probably insufficient to spur any real change in a person’s body weight. A study published July 28 in the Archives of Internal Medicine adds to the burgeoning scientific consensus: when it comes to exercise for weight loss, more is better. It suggests that obese people would have to exercise at least an hour at a time to see any significant difference in their weight.

This is a great article because it opens people’s eyes to the fact that weight loss requires maintenance and motivation and the fact that overweight people can workout for 55 mintues/five days a week and still be overweight. Proof that weightloss is a combination of diet and fitness.
Although this advice is nothing new, I always try new things to keep myself from plateauing. Some of my resources for new diet/fitness ideas:
ExericseTV: http://www.exercisetv.tv–On Demand there are tons of free workouts that are constantly changing, and online there are more than 250 free workouts. Whether it’s adding a new ab routine at the end of my cardio session or trying Yoga fitness fusion for runners, I constantly find new workouts that I like and I’m keeping my body guessing.
For diet, I really like the Weight Watchers message boards (the method I used to drop 20 pounds about two years ago). People are always offering new ideas. (www.weightwatchers.com)
I also like Fitness Magazine’s Fit List. It’s a newsletter with workout ideas/moves and diet advice. (www.fitnessmagazine.com)
